About the classes

Blues is all about feeling good! With roots in African rhythm and movement, it gives dancers the freedom to be creative while moving with a partner. Learning blues is about finding the balance between solid movement, fundamentals and free expression. In this workshop we will take you on a journey from the basics, through movement and connection tools, all the way to sharing creative, musical expression with your partner! Join us!

  • Beginner/intermediate
So, you’ve tried some blues and you want to find out more? We’ll show you the way forward. These classes will open up the blues universe to you, showing you that blues can range all the way from tiny and subtle to big, fast and energetic. We will push your boundaries and open new horizons in your bluesdancing.
  • Advanced
In these classes, we will enter the Blues Matrix.
“Do not try and dance the moves. That’s impossible. Instead, only try to realise the truth….”
    “What truth?”
    “There are no moves”
Blues is about joyful flow; movement shared between partners, led and followed anew in every moment.
Anything can happen. We will teach you how this works – how it *really* works. Get ready.

Levels

Which level suits me?

  • Beginner/intermediate
You are into the blues! You did at least 1 course of blues dancing and you practice your skills at the blues social dance parties. Basic steps and variations do not have any secrets for you anymore.
  • Advanced
You are a blues tiger! You are very comfortable on an Intermediate level and followed a few Intermediate courses or workshops, preferable at an international workshop. You practice your blues solo now and then and are a regular at blues social parties. You understand and practice the concept of body isolation, playing with rhythms and you are a smooth and creative leader or follower.

Now, About the teachers

Janna
Janna is an enthusiastic dancer and teacher since many years. She dances Lindyhop, Blues and Charleston and she was a member of the Cotton Club showgroup. She keeps training at international workshops and loves to compete. She has a passion about blues dancing and is famous for her playful and elegant style. During class, she likes to keep the spirit high and focussed and she always aims for the right balance between technique and fun. Her aim is to share the fun and make blues more accessible for everybody!

Drew
Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, Drew’s dance journey has wandered through swing, latin, hip hop, break dance, jazz and tap before bringing him home to swing and then blues. With several Australian contest titles to his name, Drew’s passion for lindy hop and blues in particular has taken him all over the world, including teaching in six countries around the Asia-Pacific, as well as in South Africa and the UAE. His classes focus on getting to the heart of movement, connection and musicality that make for kick-ass fun, expressive dancing on the social floor. Above all, he encourages dancing in the true spirit of jazz: master the rules and then break them, your way. Now living in Stockholm, Drew is excited to share his love of dance with the Dutch scene again!
